Washington State Ferries Employment Season Coming Early 2017

Washington State Ferries Deck, Terminal, and Information Department Hiring:

This January or February 2017 the WSF will begin their hiring for the Deck Department, followerd by hiring for the Terminal Department. All positions are part-time, on call, and it takes 3-4 years or more to become full time.

Please open the attachment (below) for more details and links to:

1. WA State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Employment website, where the on-line application will bne available;

2. link to Homeland Security/TSA in order to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC); and

3. the U.S. Coast Guard in order to obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)

4. You must also contact the IBU in order to obtain a Union Referral Application, one additional page of the application process (available now to complete).

The Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division (WSF) will be accepting applications for its 2016 on-call Ordinary Seaman (OS) positions starting in the winter of 2017. We will start recruiting for the 2016 on-call Terminal department in winter 2017.

In order to work as an Ordinary Seaman/Able Bodied Seaman, you will need to have your TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) TWIC and MMC (Merchant Mariners Credential) MMC.

On-call positions are a great opportunity and the only way to begin a lifetime career in the fleet with WSF, one of Washington State’s greatest attractions and the largest ferry system in the United States!

Engine Room (Engineers and Oilers)

All Engine Room positions are regulated by USCG and require DOT Drug Free Certificate, USCG Merchant Mariners Credentials, and Transportation Workers Identification Card.

These positions are filled through the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association, including temporary, on-call, and an occasional full-time replacement. You must contact the union hall regarding these positions.

Craftswashington state ferry jobs

Maintenance and repair positions are filled through the various Metal Trades Unions. You must contact the union hall regarding these positions.

Management, Engineering, Information Technology and all other Administrative Positions

These positions are filled through the WSF Human Resources Office in downtown Seattle. Applications are accepted only when a job bulletin is open. Information regarding open bulletins may be obtained by visiting the WSDOT Employment website. This lists open recruitments for the entire Department of Transportation.
