Our U.S. Coast Guard Approved Captain’s course meets the written examination requirement for the following licenses:

Master or Mate Near Coastal not more than 100 tons

Master or Mate Inland not more than 100 tons

Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels up to 100 tons

Work at your own pace to complete this course. You have 12 weeks to complete the online portion of this course. Upon completion, you will take your proctored USCG Approved final exams. Upon successful completion of the final exams, you will receive a course Certificate of Training that is valid for 1 year to be submitted to the USCG.

Code of Federal Regulations Navigation General including Aids to Navigation

Chart Plotting Navigation

This course is being offered in two formats, participants have the option of attending in person in the classroom or due to COVID-19 this course is also offered in a telepresence format. The first four days are instructor lead on-line. The final day is in class at our Anacortes training facility.

Scope
The scope of this class is to provide instruction and assessment in the subjects of navigation general, deck general, safety, and environmental protection as appropriate for the upgrade of a valid OUPV Inland or Near Coastal endorsement to Master not more than 100-ton without changing the route.

Objective
Upon successful completion of this upgrade class the mariner will have the knowledge of navigation, seamanship, and federal regulations necessary to accept the responsibility for the safety of inspected vessels less than 100 GRT on near coastal and inland routes, including its cargo and passengers; be aware of the obligations under federal regulations concerning safety and protection of the marine environment; and be able to take the practical measures necessary to meet those obligations.

Entry Standards
This course is open to all mariners holding a valid MMC National Officer Endorsement as OUPV Inland or OUPV Near Coastal.

Class Completion Requirements
Successful completion of this class requires the student to:
• Attend every day of the class.
• Complete a 50-question Navigation General, Deck General, Safety exam with a minimum passing score of 70% correct (minimum of 35 out of 50 correct answers).

Class Completion Certificate
Upon successful completion of the class requirements each student will be issued a course completion certificate. The certificate must be presented to an REC within one year of the course completion date to satisfy the exam requirements for the MMC endorsement.

COVID-19 Protocols
The first three days of this course will be conducted on a telepresence basis to observe the COVID-19 protocols. The final day will be held in our Anacortes Training Facility at 301 30th Street Anacortes WA.

Our staff can answer your questions about which level of license you are qualified for.

Please Note: Our school is located in Washington and our final exam testing locations are currently only in Gig Harbor and Anacortes.

In addition to the course cost, the following additional items are REQUIRED for this online class:
