​Fast Rescue Boat (FRB) operators uphold an important role in saving mariners, marshaling life rafts, towing vessels in distress, and conducting search, rescue, and patrol missions. At Seafarers Worldwide, we use a number of Rescue Craft, real launching arrangements, and extensive on-water practical training to ensure our graduates not only meet the requirements, but also gain valuable experience that may save lives.

​In this course you will:
Take charge of Fast Rescue Boats during and after launch, and upon recovery
Participate in all aspects of rescue and care of casualties from the water
Operate FRB engines
Learn FRB capsize; causes, prevention and righting
Learn FRB craft; equipment and operation
Learn FRB maintenance, operations, and casualties

This course satisfies Section A-VI/2 paragraphs 5-8 and table A-VI/2 of the STCW Code as defined by Title 46 Code of Federal Regulation (46 CFR, part 10) and is recognized by the United States Coast Guard, Transport Canada, and other international maritime regulatory authorities.

Any applicant who has successfully completed the Proficiency in Survival Craft Refresher course will satisfy the competency requirements of Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW 2010, as amended, for Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC), for those seafarers not having evidence of 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years provided that the applicant has previously been issued a Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats endorsement), and will satisfy the professional examination and practical demonstrated requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for endorsements for Lifeboatman and PSC.

The objective of this course is to renew the certification for student in the areas relevant to Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats, and, in doing so, satisfy company, national and international regulations and assessment guidelines as stated in Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping as amended section A-VI/2. This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Code Section A-VI/2 Mandatory minimum requirements for the issue of certificates of proficiency in survival craft, rescue boats, and fast rescue boats and Table A-VI/2-1 Specification of the minimum standard of competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats.

Proficiency in Survival Craft Refresher is a 2-day USCG & STCW approved course that provides students a refresher in taking charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch. Students also demonstrate the ability to operate a survival craft engine, manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship and use locating devices including communication and signaling apparatuses.

The Able Seaman (AB) endorsement is the first step to launching your maritime career. In this course, you will learn how to safely and effectively participate as part of the deck department of a vessel. This means being aware of the obligations under Coast Guard regulations concerning safety and protection of the marine environment, and being able to take the practical measures necessary to meet those obligations. Whether you need the standard Lifeboat certification, a PSC refresher course, or Proficiency in Survival Craft Limited to complete your AB training requirements, you can avoid any extra hassle by taking the follow-up course with our partner Seafarers Worldwide. We work to accommodate your schedule and arrange for uninterrupted class days for swift advancement to the next level.

​Do to the COVID-19 pandemic we will conducting the first four day on a telepresence format. The last day will be held in our classroom.

With an AB certificate, and the requisite sea time, you will be able to apply for the following endorsements without any further testing:

AB Unlimited requires 1080 days experience on ocean waters and can serve as AB on any vessel.

AB Limited requires 540 days experience on vessels greater than 100 GRT operating on ocean waters and can serve as any AB on vessels of less than
1600 tons and constitute 50% of the AB on vessels greater than 1600 tons.

AB Special requires 360 days experience and can serve as AB on any vessel less than 500 tons and constitute 50% of the AB on vessels greater than
500 tons.

AB OSV requires 180 days experience and can serve as AB on any oil industry vessels less than 500 tons.

This course satisfies the training requirements of STCW Code Section A-II/5, Table A-II/5, and the competency requirements of 46 CFR 12.603(a)(4); AND the written examination requirement of 46 CFR 12.405(a) for the “Deck General and Navigational General,” “Deck Safety and Rules of the Road;” AND the “Practical Marlinspike Seamanship Demonstration” requirement of 46 CFR 12.405(c). This certification is recognized by the United States Coast Guard, Transport Canada, and other international maritime regulatory authorities.

This course has been USCG approved to be conducted in a Telepresence format. One and a Half days will be held online with Pat Boyle as the instructor. The last day, students are required to be present for the launching and recovery of the rescue boat and to take the final exam.

Northwest Maritime Academy has authorized COVID-19 Tuition Assistance for this SFWW course. A deposit of 20% is required at registration and the balance is due in October.

This two and one half (2.5) day course provides the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required to take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launching as outlined in the STCW code.

This course is designed for inland mariners and focuses on the survival craft found onboard inland and near-coastal vessels. Perfect for Washington State Ferry Crew members, or for vessels without lifeboats.

This course satisfies the following STCW95 and CFR requirements:

• FR Title 46 Subpart 160.035 Lifeboats for Merchant Vessels
• CFR: Title 46 Subpart 160.056 Rescue Boats
• CFR: Title 46 Subpart 160.151 SOLAS Life rafts

At this training you will learn about Safety Guide Lines, Ship Emergencies, Abandoning the Ship, Personal Lifesaving Appliances, Rescue Operation’s, Life Rafts & Life Raft Launching Devices / Appliances, Location Aids, Signals and Signs in an Emergency.

This STCW course has been developed for seafarers who are responsible for the survival crafts and rescue boats during an emergency situation.

By following this training, participants should be able to be in charge of the survival craft or rescue boat during and after launching. Besides this, the delegates will learn how to deal with the crew members and the rescue boat, and provide first aid after abandoning the ship
