The Able Seaman (AB) endorsement is the first step
to launching your maritime career. In this course,
you will learn how to safely and effectively
participate as part of the deck department of a
vessel. This means being aware of their obligations
under Coast Guard regulations concerning safety
and protection of the marine environment, and being
able to take the practical measures necessary to
meet those obligations.
Whether you need the standard Lifeboat
certification, a PSC refresher course, or Proficiency
in Survival Craft Limited, we can help you identify
the course you need to complete your AB training
requirements.

With your AB and PSC or PSC Limited certificates
from Seafarers Worldwide, along with the requisite
sea time, you will be able to apply for the following
United States Coast Guard endorsements without
any further testing:
• AB Unlimited requires 1080 days experience on
ocean waters and can serve as AB on any vessel.
• AB Limited requires 540 days experience on
vessels greater than 100 GRT operating on ocean
waters and can serve as any AB on vessels of less
than 1600 tons and constitute 50% of the AB on
vessels greater than 1600 tons.
• AB Special requires 360 days experience and can
serve as AB on any vessel less than 500 tons and
constitute 50% of the AB on vessels greater than
500 tons.
• AB OSV requires 180 days experience and can
serve as AB on any oil industry vessels less than
500 tons.
This course satisfies the training requirements of
STCW Code Section A-II/5, Table A-II/5, and the
competency requirements of 46 CFR 12.603(a)(4);
AND the written examination requirement of 46 CFR
12.405(a) for the “Deck General and Navigational
General,” “Deck Safety and Rules of the Road;”
AND the “Practical Marlinspike Seamanship
Demonstration” requirement of 46 CFR 12.405(c).
This certification is recognized by the United States
Coast Guard, Transport Canada, and other
international maritime regulatory authorities

Able Body Seaman Telepresence Course

This course offered by Seafarers Worldwide is the first ever, mixed Telepresence course for Able Seaman anywhere in the United States that includes testing either in our classroom or at home.

This Course will be simultaneously delivered to students in classroom, as well as broadcast live via the net. Students online will have the same level of interaction with Instructors & fellow students whether in class, or online.

The program will utilize a state of the art Telepresence, three camera system, and conferencing platform that will allow for as much interaction as if you were actually in classroom. In addition to the in-house instructor, you will also have a dedicated on-line instructor to facilitate communications with the podium instructor, answer questions, and field request. Its like having two instructors at one time.

The system is quite flexible and allows for participation through any modern computing device with a camera (webcam), and microphone.

All course presentation times are PST (Pacific Daylight Time) UTC/GMT -8 hours Pacific Time.

Benefits of this AB Course

After the instructor delivers the lesson plan in a live stream format, Seafarers Worldwide will make the video accessible to the students on demand. Students can review parts of the lesson which they found more difficult than the rest.
An online discussion board will give students the chance to ask questions and share ideas.
The instructor is available during the class to answer questions at any time
At the conclusion of the course students take the final exam online, administered by SFWW

Details: This is a five day 40 hour course that begins on Monday morning at 0800. Students taking the class in person will arrive at our training facility. Students taking the course online will log on to the course as instructed at the time of registration.

​When you register for this course you may choose to simply attend the course in person, or you can take advantage of the Telepresence option.

​The final exam and knot practical will be given on Friday. For Telepresence students the exam will also be given on Friday but will be online.

2.5 Days (20 Hours)
This is an excellent solution for inland workers, ferry
workers, fishing vessels, or any vessel carrying
Survival Craft other than a fiberglass motor enclosed lifeboat. STCW mandates that all
Able Seafarers demonstrate competency in Survival
Craft operations. This course solves the problem for
mariners working on vessels without lifeboats.

In this course you will:
- Operate Life-Saving Appliances and take charge of
a Survival Craft or Rescue Boat during or after launch
- Operate a Rescue Craft engine
- Manage survivors and Survival Craft after abandoning ship
- Know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and signaling apparatuses
and pyrotechnics
- Learn how to apply first aid to survivors and the actions to take to preserve lives

This course satisfies Subpart C of Title 11, 46 CFR
for any endorsement of Able Seafarer restricted to
vessels without lifeboats.
