This course is designed for mariners who have designated security duties under a Vessel Security Plan (VSP) in accordance with STCW and U.S. Coast Guard requirements. Successful completion of this training provides participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to perform assigned vessel security responsibilities effectively and professionally.

Students who successfully complete the course will gain knowledge and proficiency in:

• Current maritime security threats and security awareness;
• Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances, and devices;
• Identifying, on a non-discriminatory basis, behavioral patterns and characteristics of persons likely to pose security risks;
• Methods used to circumvent security measures and procedures;
• Crowd management and control techniques;
• Security-related communications and reporting procedures;
• Emergency procedures and contingency planning;
• Operation and monitoring of security equipment and systems;
• Testing, calibration, and maintenance of security systems and equipment;
• Inspection, control, and surveillance techniques;
• Conducting physical searches of persons, baggage, cargo, vessel stores, and personal effects.

This course meets the training requirements for Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties under the STCW Code and applicable maritime security regulations
