Designed for mariners seeking an efficient and cost-effective way to meet survival craft training requirements, this intensive 2½-day program provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond confidently during emergencies at sea.

Don’t let the word “Limited” fool you. One of the most common misconceptions among mariners is that PSCL will limit future opportunities or prevent them from qualifying for Able Seafarer Deck or Able Seaman endorsements. This is not true. The U.S. Coast Guard fully accepts PSCL as meeting the survival craft training requirement for all levels of Able Seaman (AB)—including AB Special, AB Limited, and AB Unlimited—as well as Able Seafarer Deck for mariners serving on vessels where enclosed motor lifeboats are not required.

Unlike a traditional four-day Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC) course, which typically runs Monday through Thursday, PSCL is designed for working mariners. Classes begin Friday evening from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by two full days of training on Saturday and Sunday. This schedule minimizes time away from work while delivering the same high-quality instruction and practical exercises required by the Coast Guard.

At $575, PSCL costs approximately half the tuition of a full PSC course, making it one of the most affordable ways to satisfy the survival craft training requirement for many mariners.
